Humber Cluster Energy Saving Campaign

Project Location:
Humber Cluster
Client Name:
Associated British Ports (ABP)
Challenge
Civils modification to accompany the new larger transformer HV and LV Cable replacements.
Asbestos Management on the existing infrastructure.
Manual handling due to the proximity of the transformer locations.
Operational environment within the UK’s busiest port.
Management of outages to avoid onsite operational disruption.
Solution
Our dedicated Senior Authorised Person managed the outages with assistance from the client on site.
With the Engineering team working closely with the Supply Chain, the Civil modifications were carried out with the asset still in service to minimise the outage of the equipment.
Lifting plans were developed and used to ensure the safe replacement of the assets and ensuring minimum down time within the replacements.
Generators installed where critical supplies were required to be maintained.
OCU teams worked closely and collaboratively with our client to ensure safety, environmental and operational factors carefully managed.
Project Description:
ABP identified a number of Transformer Assets that are progressing in age and have a considerable number of losses when they are transforming the High Voltage Network down to the localised Low Voltage requirement.
Key Stats:
UK Transformer average age is 63 years
Up to 17 tons of CO2 reduction per year per transformer
Energy cost saving of c.£16k per annum
Average payback period will be three years as a return on client's investment
12 months
Duration

Outcome
Improved network reliability.
Energy Reduction across the client network, with progression made towards their Net Zero targets.
Our client ABP was happy with the works and complimented our team's attitude and professionalism.
We are now one of their key suppliers and Framework Delivery Partner for HV Infrastructure.
Planned framework for five years will see us support in the replacement of assets whose condition has deteriorated.
