Jamesfield 49MW BESS Project

Project Location:

Jamesfield

Client Name:

Tesla

Challenge

  • Design and build for new technology with unknown factors associated with new equipment for both Civil and Electrical design.

  • Detailed design development progressed alongside construction works with rigorous review and approval process.

  • Poor ground conditions, high water table and historical carrier drainage features.

  • Land drains required investigation, assessment and diversion.

  • DNO grid route design to establish suitable 33kV cable route to futureproof for planned expansion of adjacent DNO substation.

  • Implementation of split site arrangement during live construction works to offset significant delivery delays of DNO Switchgear.

  • Challenging programme requirements for electrical balance of plant phase to achieve early entry into the market.

Solution

Our Balance of Plant (BoP) Electrical and Civils solution included:

  • Earthworks 9,000m³

  • Drainage/Ducting 450m Earthing 950m

  • 26 separate foundations (370 m)

  • Three basement structures

  • DNO substation building 40m²

  • 33kV Contestable grid route 900m

  • HV & LV cabling 6,000m

  • Powered storage 40ft containers

  • Connection of 26 battery units (4MWh)

  • 13 MV transformers
