Neilston, Scotland

Client Name:

Welsh Power

Project Description:

This NEC4 Option A contract involved the construction of a 653m² portal frame building to house a Synchronous Condenser unit. The construction of an 8500m² platform featured varying depths of 6F2, Type 1, and stone chippings, providing a robust foundation for the facility. • 1,000m of access roads

• 8500m² platform

• 100% waste reuse

86 Weeks

Duration

Challenge

• The project site was in an area of deep peat with a rock head below, presenting significant geological challenges

• Small site footprint causing logistical challenges

Solution

• An environmental plan was developed focusing on the reuse of organic material in landscape bunds and establishing areas to process the broken-out rock head for 100% reuse on site

• To mitigate the small site footprint, we created key lay-down areas away from pending works areas, optimising the use of available space and minimising disruptions to ongoing operations

Outcome

• Successful project delivery ensured by our experienced teams, comprising both seasoned members of site management and skilled site operatives

• Effective stakeholder liaison identified solutions to issues and changing design requirements

• Strong relationships with the supply chain ensured the continuous availability of materials

• Where suppliers faced technical difficulties, alternative sources were quickly mobilised to keep the project on track
