Challenge

  • Design and build for a new technology with detailed design development progressed alongside the construction works.

  • Design review and approval process with several key parties – BESS manufacturer, Route to market provider, O&M contractor and DNO.

  • Stakeholders and Service providers were consulted for the crossing of large diameter watermains, two high-pressure gas pipelines and alteration of fibre networks.

  • Several landowners, residents and businesses along the contestable 33kV grid route required close liaison and co-operation.

  • Challenging ground conditions on site required floated roads, ground improvement layers and areas of rock break-out.

Solution

Our Balance of Plant (BoP) Electrical and Civils solution included:

  • Earthworks 4,000m³

  • Imported 6F Capping 10,000t

  • Imported Type 1 3,000t

  • 28 separate foundations (150m³)

  • Two basement Structures

  • DNO substation building (40m³)

  • 33kV Contestable grid route 2km

  • HV/LV cabling 7,000m

  • Two powered storage containers

  • 27 Tesla megapack 2 XL battery systems

  • 14 MV Transformers
