Challenge

  • Earthworks including working in the vicinity of HV services and delivery of material within an operational wind farm

  • Delivery of key components including Modular Battery Packs from the battery technology provider to meet programmed installation dates

  • Design optimisation with additional works programmed and constructed to accommodate the battery installer requirements

  • Coring into an existing building for Electrical Connection while maintaining Electrical Operations to the adjacent Wind Farm

Solution

Our Balance of Plant (BoP) Electrical and Civils solution included:

  • Foundation bays including strip rail foundations for five battery storage units

  • Transformer foundations for five individual battery arrays and interconnections

  • Connection of 70 battery units

Project Description:

This 20MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project was constructed at Ray Wind Farm approximately 5km south of the village of Otterburn in Northumberland.
