OCU Supports Local Schools Through Careers & Music

As part of our ongoing ESG commitment, OCU has recently supported two local primary schools through interactive Careers Week engagement and a meaningful donation, both designed to enrich learning.
We recently sponsored the publication of a book by Inkle World, and their visit to Aston by Sutton Primary School, featuring Author Christine and Illustrator Kat Armstrong. Pupils took part in a live book reading, interactive activities, and a Q&A session exploring creative careers, storytelling, illustration, and engineering. Our team also shared behind-the-scenes content from our operations using our media van, demonstrating how underground water pipes are installed.

Each child received a copy of the book, a workbook, and stickers to encourage continued learning at home.
Smaller rural schools can often miss out on enrichment activities, and we’re pleased to support Aston by Sutton in a way that offers lasting value.
At Meadowbank Primary School in Stockport, we donated our piano from OCU’s Stockport Head Office, where it is now actively used as part of the school’s music programme. To celebrate the occasion, and with the help of our partner The Hallé Orchestra, we supported a special assembly featuring live music, dancing, and singing – with the Deputy Mayor of Stockport, Gary Lawson, in attendance.
Nikki Gaffey, Executive Assistant at OCU, who helped coordinate the donation, said:
“Attending Meadowbank Primary to mark the donation of the piano alongside members of The Hallé Orchestra was a real highlight for me. Seeing how much the students and teachers appreciated the piano, and how joyfully they engaged with the music was incredibly rewarding.”

Thank you to Aston by Sutton Primary, Meadowbank Primary, Inkle World, The Hallé, and everyone at OCU who helped make these events possible.
